The #YouthIgnite Student Founders Fellowship is a UNDP’s FUNGUO Programme initiative that seeks to create more job creators than job seekers from Tanzanian Higher Learning Institutions. With financial support from the European Union and the UK Government, the initiative is designed to empower university students with the skills and support they need to succeed as entrepreneurs.
During its pilot phase, the programme worked with 10 universities across Tanzania and Zanzibar, attracting close to 1300 applications, training close to 300 of them in business skills and selecting top 30 business undergo an intensive business bootcamp that culminated in a pitching competition with 20 winners.
Through #YouthIgnite, more students will have the opportunity to launch their own startups, gain valuable business skills, and build strong connections between universities, industries, and investors and potentially create jobs. The goal is to inspire a new generation of entrepreneurs and position student-led businesses at the heart of Tanzania’s economic future.
