Partnership with iMBEJU to Expand Startup Support to Over TZS 5 Billion

On November 22, 2024, FUNGUO, in collaboration with CRDB Bank’s iMBEJU initiative, unveiled its third cohort of 18 innovative startups and SMEs in Dar es Salaam. Selected from over 400 applications, the cohort benefited from TZS 1.45 billion in FUNGUO Catalytic Grants and TZS 355 million in iMBEJU Soft Loans. The partnership combined non-repayable grants funded by the European Union with reimbursable grants from the CRDB Bank Foundation, focusing on businesses driving job creation, youth empowerment, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Notably, 40% of the funding was allocated to women-led or women-founded businesses, emphasizing gender inclusivity in Tanzania’s innovation ecosystem. The selected startups spanned diverse sectors, including agriculture, energy, healthcare, and financial services, offering technology-driven solutions to societal challenges while creating employment opportunities.

This year’s cohort will receive tailored technical assistance, investment profiling, and growth acceleration support, further enhancing their impact and positioning them for additional financing opportunities.
